ABSTRACT |
Auditory steady-state response (ASSR) are used for estimating hearing sensitivity of those who cannot be subjectively tested.
Recently, bone-conducted (BC) ASSR are also available on clinical systems but the test-retest reliability of BC ASSR has not been
reported. The purpose of this study was to investigate the test-retest reliability of BC ASSR in adults with normal hearing and with
sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). Data were obtained from 22 ears with normal hearing and 11 ears with SNHL. The BC ASSR
measurement was performed at carrier frequencies of 500, 1,000, 2,000 and 4,000 Hz using the Audera system. All procedures for
measuring the BC ASSR were repeated within 15 days. There were no significant differences in BC ASSR thresholds between the
test and the retest for both groups (p>.05). The correlation coefficients of the BC ASSR thresholds ranged from poor (0.34, 0.38)
for 500, 1,000 Hz to moderate (0.58, 0.62) for 2,000, 4,000 Hz in normal hearing adults. The correlation coefficients in SNHL adults
were 0.33, 0.90, 0.93 and 0.68 for each test frequency. Results demonstrated moderately strong reliability for 1,000, 2,000 and 4,000
Hz, although the reliability for 500 Hz was low. It is suggested, therefore, that the BC ASSR measurement be a clinically reliable test
especially in high frequencies. |
