ABSTRACT |
In the United States, audiology had its origins in the military rehabilitative services during and immediately after World War II. From
the beginning to now days, audiology had remarkably improved in auditory rehabilitation skills, hearing tests as well as hearing
assistive instruments which can be helpful to the hearing impaired. Without dedicated and enthusiastic audiologists, the achievements
could not be accomplished. In concerned with the general health care service field development, audiology has continued to expand and,
enrich the technical area such as cochlear implant (CI), auditory brainstem implant (ABI), neuroplasticity, central auditory processing
disorder (CAPD), hair cell regeneration, mismatch negativity (MMN), stacked-ABR, cochlear hydrops analysis masking procedure
(CHAMPS), vestibular-evoked-myogenic potentials (VEMP) and tinnitus retraining therapy (TRT). The purpose of this paper was
to introduce not only the origin of audiology but also the national certification system for audiologists, research trends of audiology
in the United States. |
