ABSTRACT
Positioning the electrodes on the surface of the scalp make possible to record and monitor the electrical activity of the brain. There has been considerable interest in the relationship between these recordings and psychological processes. The Event Related Brain Potentials (ERPs) are regarded as manifestations of brain activities that occur in preparation or responses to the discrete stimuli. At present, ERPs are one of the most established methods in cognitive neuroscience and are considered the proper standard in terms of temporal resolution in the noninvasive imaging methods. This paper reviews the underlying sources of ERPs and their relationship to physiological function.
